It was the week of November the 6th, wellbeing week in St. Gerards. Our week of wellbeing started with a talk from the minister for health TD Simon Harris. He talked to us about plans to put a tax on sugar in April and a revised food pyramid among other things. Overall a decent talk. Next was a talk from an ex model about overcoming depression which seemed to be more about her than about depression, pretty dull and that concluded the Monday.
Tuesday only contained one talk which was the topic of nutritional therapy. A woman came to talk to us about not what you would assume nutrition about no not about nutrition but about some hipster Japanese thing she called a culture. Essentially what it was is a rotten pile of fruit and veg sugar coated that is meant to be drank. She explained that it was to get good bacteria into our bodies that isn't always there, which I can understand but the prices she was saying for these things that you can buy in places like the happy pare was exactly like the buy that buy into this stuff, crazy!
There was no more talks until the Friday which was the AWARE Ireland talk. A man named Steve from AWARE came in to talk to us about depression and how to deal with it, to get help and to help someone who you think is depressed. This talk was great, Steve gave us a list of all the symptoms to look out for in your friends and different helplines and places you can visit to seek help for that friend if you are unsure how to help them further. I will hopefully never have to use any of this information but I am glad that I know it regardless if I will need it or not in the future. Overall the week wasn't great but I did appreciate Steve's work and talk he gave us and would recommend that talk if any to every secondary school out there.
